Of the 62 elected candidates, here is a breakdown by community declared. The last column gives the distribution of communities in Mauritius according to the 1972 census.

Interestingly, some candidates who declared themselves as Hindus (e.g. Anil Kumar Bachoo and Navinchandra Ramgoolam) were not chosen as best losers despite obtaining a large proportion of votes because the Hindu community is already well represented in Parliament with 37 elected candidates.
